CASPR NC2i vs SARS-CoV2

CASPR NC2i technology uses nano-technologies and a very specific UV bulb to generate friendly oxidants through an advanced photo-catalytic process. These friendly oxidants have been shown to substantially reduce microbial populations and inactivate viruses on surfaces.

Severe Accute Respiratory Syndrom Corona Virus – explained

The virus SARS-CoV2 is a positive and single stranded RNA virus belonging to a family of enveloped coronavirus- es. Its genome is about 29.7kb, which is one of the largest among RNA viruses. The SARS virus has 13 known genes and 14 known proteins. SARS-Coronavirus follows the replication strategy typical of the Coronavirus genus.

SARS-CoV2 particles as seen by negative stain electron microscopy. The morphology of the SARS coronavirus is characteristic of the coronavirus family as a whole. These viruses have large pleomorphic spherical particles with bulbous surface projections that form
a corona around particles.

The internal component of the shell is a single-stranded helical ribonucleoprotein. There are also long surface projections that protrude from the lipid envelope. The size of these particles is in the 80–90 nm range.

Infection Prevention – Surface disinfection

The main source of infection is contact with body fluids from infected people or inanimate objects that have been exposed to contaminated body fluid. Therefore there are a number of interventions that are required to help control transmission, such as protective clothing, isolation, environmental cleaning and disinfection, hand washing etc. All of these processes are required in the event of an isolated infection or outbreak.

As the NC2i-rich air reaches interior surfaces, it continues to work, assisting in the maintenance of cleaning programs long after cleaners and disinfectants have evaporated. The same processes go to work inside ducts, on tables and counters, bathroom tiles, doorknobs, and almost every surface you can touch, helping to insure and maintain a more thorough cleaning regimen.

SARS-CoV2 is an enveloped virus and CASPR NC2i technology has been shown to be effective against enveloped viruses (Inactivation of Influenza A H1N1 using NC2i – Microchem Laboratory Texas – January 2018). It is important to stress that NC2i is not intended as a substitute for cleaning or removing dirt, debris or other physical sources of contamination).

CASPR NC2i was tested against Influenza A virus on inanimate surfaces and was found to inactivate 100% of the exposed viruses. (Influenza A is an enveloped virus)

The Evolution of Environmental Disinfection has Taken a Quantum Leap

CASPR Technologies Announces New Product

DALLAS, TEXAS, JUNE 4, 2019—The CASPR Technologies (CASPR) partnered with the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) as a Strategic Resource Partner for 2019.

CASPR is exhibiting at the Annual APIC conference held June 12-14 in Philadelphia and will be introducing its new product CASPR Medik™ (pronounced medic) to infection control and epidemiology professionals and the press.

CEO Gail Warrior comments, “As a company that is focused on infection prevention, we are committed to working with healthcare professionals to achieve the common goal of ZERO HAIs. This is just one of the reasons we’ve joined APIC as a Strategic Partner.”

Industry expert John LaRochelle says people can expect to see, “the holy grail in terms of what we’ve been looking for in the industry for cleaning and disinfection to fill the gap between what the housekeepers miss for cleaning and disinfection, and what these enhanced disinfection devices just can’t hit.”

“You couldn’t ask for anything better,” says current customer Lori Townsend, MSN, CIC, CPHQ. “CASPR is continuous disinfection. You don’t have to have the staff involved because it is no-touch. It is completely automated.”

About CASPR Technologies:

CASPR Technologies offers a range of new and unique technologies for a wide array of healthcare services. Our flagship product is the CASPR Medik™, is installed in healthcare settings to naturally reduce the micro-burden on all surfaces.

CASPR began its U.S. operations on October 31, 2016.  Since CASPR has been developing its technology and testing its efficacy against clinically relevant pathogens in an independent laboratory.  The CASPR Medik technology is a continuous 24/7, facility-wide treatment that’s safe to use in occupied healthcare spaces.

CASPR technology has been installed and studied in several hospital trials. Results to date have demonstrated up to an 80% reduction in bacterial and fungal micro-burdens and a significant reduction in the incidence of MRSA and VRE.  Departments being trialed have also experienced a large reduction in employee absenteeism.

“We’ve been able to reduce the level of pathogens between 8 and 10-fold,” says Daniel Marsh, GM of Healthcare for CASPR. “Wouldn’t you want your facility to be 10 times cleaner if you could make that happen?”

Lombardi Family Concepts – Sani 2018 Award

For decades Lombardi Family Concepts (LFC) has welcomed new guests and old friends from local neighborhoods and around the world into our European restaurants. LFC owns and operates 17 locations across the United States and Mexico.

Because LFC strives to maintain the highest standard in food safety and customer experience, they are constantly looking for new technologies around food safety.  One of the ongoing challenges has been maintaining clean ice machines that are free from bacteria and mold that could potentially contaminate the ice supply.

Historically, Lombardi Family Concepts has used a very labor-intensive approach of maintaining pristine ice machines but were still concerned with the amount of pathogen buildup between frequent cleanings. LFC’s objective was to find a technology that would provide continuous disinfection of the ice machines and destroy bacteria and mold before any buildup could rise to unsafe levels in the equipment. The objective was met, and the challenge resolved through the technology of CASPR and specifically the CASPR-ice units.

Alberto Lombardi explains that “Lombardi Family Concepts’ tagline is Eat Drink Enjoy Life so when I became aware of this one of a kind food safety technology, I decided that Lombardi Family Concepts should implement the technology in all of my locations in Texas.”

According to the National Center for Biotechnology Information, food related illnesses pose a $77.7 billion economic burden annually in the US reinforcing the notion that there is a direct link between preventing foodborne illness and reducing dangerous pathogens that can spread to food and then to customers.

Robert Clayton, VP of Operations for Lombardi Family Concepts stated, “The CASPR solution has enabled us to improve our ability to ensure that our customers will continue to enjoy a dining experience at any of our 17 establishments without any fear of illness associated with contaminated ice.”

Clayton further adds that “The CASPR-ice technology allows us to have a continuous reduction in harmful bacteria that can never be achieved with our traditional episodic intervention.”

As a result of implementing the first and only continuous pathogen-reducing technology, Lombardi Family Concepts was awarded the 2018 Sani Award for Outstanding Food & Safety Program Innovation this past May.

Lombardi Family Concepts is now exploring the full scope of CASPR Technologies’ food safety technology for use in keeping their kitchen surfaces and restaurant environments safe from foodborne pathogens.

About CASPR Technologies

The CASPR Technologies has created a technology that recreates the same natural process that reduces outdoor pollution. Our technology’s safe, natural purifiers actively seek out and eliminate indoor air pollution and illness-causing pathogens on surfaces.

For 16 years our technology has been used extensively throughout Europe, South America and Asia for environmental disinfection in healthcare settings, food processing plants and other applications. Headquartered in Dallas, TX, we have brought a new and advanced generation of our technology to the United States.
