What is CASPR Medik™?

CASPR Medik™ is the only continuous disinfection solution for the reduction of bioburden on all surfaces of a healthcare setting. Designed to supplement the normal cleaning and disinfecting protocols, CASPR Medik™ is an “enhanced no-touch” technology that uses photo catalysts to convert the water molecules in the humidity of an HVAC system into highly effective oxidizing molecules that blanket the surface of the targeted clinical area and reduce bioburden 24/7.

What does CASPR stand for?

CASPR stands for Clean Air and Surface Pathogen Reduction.

What does it kill?

CASPR Medik™ has been proven to kill MRSA as well as other ESKAPE Pathogens: Enterococus Facium (VRE), Klebsiella Pneumonia, Acinetobactor Baumonii, Pseudomonas Aeruginosa, and Enterobacter species. It also kills C-Diff, Aspergillas Niger, and Candida Albicans.

How has it been tested?

The product has been used extensively throughout Europe, South America and Asia in food processing plants, healthcare settings and other applications where environmental disinfection is required. It has also been tested in a recent study in a Houston hospital, where it demonstrated effectiveness in reducing bioburdens in operating rooms, patient rooms, and employee work areas by over 99%.

Where should I use it?

CASPR Medik™ is ideal for enhancing the existing cleaning and disinfecting protocols in place at your healthcare facility. It not only covers missed areas during routine cleaning, but also areas typically not addresssed like the nurses’ stations, hallways, cafeterias, and patient waiting rooms.  CASPR Medik™ was designed to be a full-facility solution.

Who is this product meant for?

CASPR Medik™ is meant as a supplemental solution for the environmental services and infection preventionist responsible for developing and implementing cleaning and disinfection protocols designed to maintain cleanliness and prevent the spread of harmful pathogens. It is designed to enhance their goal of reducing HAIs by reducing bioburden levels in the air and on the surfaces of the facility.

How is CASPR Medik™ different from other technologies?

Current methods of cleaning and disinfection with bleach and quaternary ammonia on a wipe are effective but are performed periodically. Once applied, the pathogens almost immediately begin to repopulate the space. Even new supplementary interventions like UV light towers are an episodic intervention that allows bacteria to invade the clinical areas as soon as the application is terminated. CASPR Medik™ is the only continuous intervention that delivers effective oxidizing molecules to all the surfaces including walls and floors reducing bioburdens 24/7. There is no need to interrupt workflow or vacate rooms. The continuous disinfection solution provides an “enhanced no-touch” option that works safely and effectively behind the scenes to provide a safer environment.

Is the disinfection immediate?

The CASPR Medik™ solution begins to disinfect immediately. It is designed to work safely and effectively in occupied spaces, which are subject to ongoing insults to their environmental surfaces. CASPR Medik™ will decrease bioburden levels continuously and increasingly over time. In lab testing bioburdens of MRSA on surfaces have been reduced by more than 90% in 6 hours and over 99.9% in 24 hours.

What applications are appropriate for CASPR Medik™?

Any area where there are strategies employed to reduce cross contamination by implementing cleaning and disinfecting protocols are appropriate to deploy the CASPR Medik™ solution. Research has demonstrated that environmental surfaces within hospitals are responsible for contributing to HAIs. Research has further demonstrated that we can do a better job of cleaning the surfaces of multiple patient care areas from patient rooms to operating rooms.

What is Environmental Disinfection?

Environmental Disinfection is the removal, destruction, or deactivation of microorganisms in the air and on surfaces. The ultimate purpose of Environmental Disinfection is to improve caregiver and patient safety and health by reducing reservoirs, where such microorganisms may reside and be transmitted to a nearby host.

Why is Environmental Disinfection important?

Environmental Disinfection breaks a link in the chain of infection by eliminating microorganisms on surfaces that can be transmitted to a host. Research has proven that this is a critical strategy in reducing HAIs.

How is it regulated?

CASPR is regulated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and, accordingly, our devices are produced in an EPA-registered facility.
